Senior UI/UX Designer

About LearnWise

LearnWise AI is an AI-first scale-up building virtual assistants, instructor efficiency tools, and student engagement solutions for universities and colleges. We're a small team moving fast: the best idea wins no matter who says it, and every hire owns real scope from day one.

About the role

We're looking for a Senior UI/UX Designer who has already designed and shipped AI products to help define what AI-native products should feel like. You'll design for two audiences at once: the university teams who buy and configure LearnWise, and the students and educators who rely on it every day. You'll get to know both deeply and take features from first insight to shipped experience. You'll create, grow, and own a holistic design system, and shape a multi-stage research, UX, and UI process, from customer workshops and PostHog session replays to polished, delightful interfaces. AI is part of how we work, not just what we build: you'll use tools like Claude Design and Figma to research faster, prototype in hours instead of weeks, and explore more ideas before committing to one. Working directly with our CPO, you'll mentor and raise the bar for our growing design team, with real ownership over how millions of students experience AI in education. This is primarily a hands-on design role: expect roughly 80% individual design work and 20% mentoring.

What you'll do

AI-native design
Design for AI: create UI patterns for model-driven features (prompting, feedback loops, explainability, fallbacks) and ensure safe, predictable UX.
Use AI design tools (e.g., Claude Design, Figma AI) every day to research, prototype and explore faster, and set the team's best practices for using them.
Product & feature design
Work from open problems, not detailed specs: ask the right questions, challenge assumptions, and propose a direction with clear reasoning.
Lead end-to-end design for B2B features: discovery, wireframes, high-fidelity UI, interactive prototypes and shipped deliverables.
Define acceptance criteria and success metrics for features and iterate designs based on product analytics and customer feedback.
Produce developer-ready assets and specifications (component usage, tokens, responsive behaviour) and support implementation during sprints.
User research & validation
Run lean research with university customers: interviews, usability tests and co-development sessions where you present designs, lead feedback discussions and turn what you hear into design decisions.
Turn product analytics (PostHog), session replays and customer feedback into clear problem statements and prioritized design recommendations.
Design system & documentation
Create, maintain and grow a holistic product design system (components, tokens, accessibility rules) in Figma and a component library (e.g., Storybook).
Establish governance: contribution workflow, versioning, release notes and cross-team ownership to keep the system consistent as the product scales.
Maintain clear documentation and examples for designers, engineers and product managers to ensure consistent implementation across products.

Mentoring & collaboration
Mentor and coach fellow designers, run design critiques, and support hiring/onboarding for a small remote EU team across hubs in Amsterdam and Barcelona.
Collaborate closely with product managers, engineers and customer success to align designs with enterprise customer needs and roadmap priorities.

What you bring

Minimum 5 years professional product UI/UX design experience (SaaS/B2B product context).
Experience designing AI-powered products or features that have shipped to real users (e.g., conversational UX, model outputs, user controls), shown in your portfolio.
Hands-on, everyday use of AI design tools (e.g., Claude Design, Figma AI, v0, Lovable) in your design process, with examples you can show.
Proven experience mentoring and coaching other designers (e.g., running critiques, giving feedback, supporting hiring).
Portfolio with at least 3 end-to-end case studies that show research → design → shipped outcome (linkable work required).
Proven experience building a design system from scratch and maintaining it in production.
Experience working in lean product teams (e.g., startup or scale-up) where designers own their work end-to-end.
Working proficiency in English (able to run interviews and present findings to stakeholders).

Nice to have

Familiarity with Storybook or component libraries.
Hands-on experience planning and running user research (interviews, usability testing).
Familiarity with LMS platforms (e.g., Canvas, Brightspace, Moodle) or edtech.
Experience using product analytics tools (e.g., PostHog, Mixpanel, Amplitude) to define and measure UX success metrics.
Basic knowledge of React or front-end constraints to improve design-to-engineer handoff.
